RELAZIONE
Il complesso Dar Al-Consul (DAC) è situato nel cuore della Città Vecchia di Gerusalemme: le sue origini risalgono al primitivo insediamento della città più antica, e si trovava di fronte
lungo la strada del cardo in epoca romana; infatti all’interno è presente un importante tratto di strada romana e parte di una bottega sul cardo; è stato in seguito caravanserraglio mentre l’edificio è del periodo mamelucco; nel xix secolo ospitava il consolato prussiano.
L’intervento proposto rispetta totalmente l’esistente e le diverse stratigrafie rilevate. Il sito si presenta su diversi livelli e l’intento progettuale è stato quello di collegare questi dislivelli unicamente con rampe. Il luogo verrà destinato ad attività di accoglienza e come hub per diverse start up e laboratori artigianali. Un albero di olivo presente all’interno simboleggia le diverse attività dell’area che lo utilizzavano per diverse attività (come la fabbricazione di sapone).
E’ un pezzo di Gerusalemme sottratto dall’esterno verso l’interno e per questo la pavimentazione è dello stesso materiale della pavimentazione della città vecchia.

The Dar Al-Consul complex (DAC) is located in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem: its origins date back to the primitive settlement of the oldest city, and it was located opposite
along the cardo road in Roman times; in fact, inside there is an important part of Roman road and part of a shop on the cardo; it was later a caravanserai while the building dates back to the Mamluk period; in the 19th century it housed the Prussian consulate.
The proposed intervention fully respects the existing and the different stratigraphies detected. The site is on different levels and the design intent was to connect these differences in height only with ramps. The place will be used for hosting activities and as a hub for various start-ups and craft workshops.
An olive tree present inside symbolizes the different activities in the area that used it for different activities (such as the manufacture of soap).
